"Earthquake of 8.5 in Chile?

is the one o'clock on Saturday February 27, 2010. Just a few minutes ago I heard this:

An earthquake of 8.5 on the Richter scale was recorded in central Chile, the duration was nearly two minutes. An eternity. I really feel uneasy, very much. Less than 15 minutes talking on msn with a Chilean friend, Camilla, on the festival of Viña del Mar. suddenly stopped answering. Seeking information on the consequences of the earthquake in Chile and other South American countries want to know if he was in Argentina ("everything is fine, really, Lilian?) and in what intensity.

(If anyone has information on damage by the earthquake in South America please share it here)

There are no reports of anything yet, absolutely nothing in the newspapers "The third" and "second" on situation in Chile.

UPDATE: Apparently the Chilean news sites have collapsed.

In Chile, right now, it's 3 am, most of the population is at home. Hopefully the Chilean infrastructure has resisted this outrageous onslaught of nature.

Please all is well. Amazes me that today (well, yesterday) was another major quake in the world: 7.5 degrees Richter in Japan. For high, activated the alarm Tsunam i. I do not know, and I think no one knows, what does this have involved or affected.

UPDATE: Also in Chile the alarm was triggered Tsunami ( possible Tsunami on the coasts of Chile, Peru and Ecuador ).

UPDATE: The Secretary Patrick Roseberry rule Tsunami possibility.

UPDATE: So far, only one reported fatality. ---> As the first official report, are five people in the Maule. The Cathedral of Divine Providence is among the structures damaged.

THE WORLD IS ADVISED OF THE EARTHQUAKE IN CHILE FOR TWITTER

Traditional media not suitable for real time reporting. The information and reports of damage is flowing through Twitter. In fact, the whole world has learned this fact through this network. For those who do not have access, here is a compilation first of tweets about the situation:

-------

the Colombian newspaper El Tiempo reported:

Thousands of people left their homes and are in the streets and parks of Santiago on fears of aftershocks. "Many people are camping in the streets," one witness told Reuters news agency.

At the moment it is unknown the extent of the damage recorded, although in several areas, including capital and Valparaiso, there have been power outages and restrictions on telephone lines.

The earthquake is one of the highest recorded in world history and is superior in magnitude to that recently devastated Haiti.

There are conflicting reports about the possibility of Tsunami on the coast of Valparaiso. If anyone has information, share it here. Just in case, take precautions: documents and supplies ready.

UPDATE: Photo gallery of the earthquake in Chile .

No I can stop thinking about how strange it is that before yesterday (Thursday) I attended a conference on earthquakes. Now, after that, instead of being quiet, I'm more nervous.

Maybelline Liquid Mousse Swatches

The title is the least arbitrary

Vengo coming home. Today was a busy day, entertaining but also paradoxical. Interesting in many ways. Sad in a pair.

On the one hand, I had the opportunity to accompany the President of the State of Bolivia, Evo Morales, in some parts of his whirlwind visit to this capital, and even "shared food" with politicians, officials and intellectuals food was done in his honor.

Interesting, yes. Enough.

Furthermore, after the meeting that took place in Coyoacán (where Evo Morales gave an emotional, but long and sometimes bumpy speech to more than 5 000 people), I met Luis and some of his companions and went to a small bar. I do not know why, but I felt strange. As a very out of place, away. I was tired, dos, without much money and decided to return home.

Once in the underground (great place to make thousands of Mexican anthropological studies), while listening to "Look, it's going to take thirty pesos for ten greatest hits formats Juan Gabriel di-vi-di, take, take "my mind went from one thought to another with unusual speed. I thought about work, life, politics, the concept friendship, goodness and man's inherent evil, love, death, everything and anything, and eventually, inevitably, I felt sad. But truly sad.

At one point I remembered, and in a flash, all and each of the persons (not relatives) who have been really important to my life. I went through the memory of the "Warsaw Pact", in high school, with my brother Andrew Tovar, the eyes Samantha and Claudia's smile, my "first love" of that time, the poems, the balloon and Josue scarf in the first year of the CUM, the leaves of "Gathering", with Andrew, Silvia, and Luis Majo , the serenade of November 5, 2003 and all travel "school" Paty, volleyball matches with angina, the wheels, the Dwarf, the Reno and Mauritius, the graduation dinner with Ana Conover, wine , chats and my admiration for Natalia Rivera in Paris, the sad goodbyes and passionate in my life, at the airport in Berlin, Paqui Cano, the talk on "Different Latitudes" on Cafebrería The Pendulum in December 2008 and mezcales October 2009 with Lilian, the first arepas I tried in my life, the embrace of five hours, Radiohead concert with Natalia Gutierrez.

I realized, again, but now in a somewhat crude way, I'm away from most of these people. That does not preserve the friendship did not extend beyond the engagement, not regained contact. That even, no chance to regain even the smallest living with a couple of them. Worse, you are probably being away from others.

think and remember that scene in "Up in the air", when George Clooney's character tells the girl "do not be naive what will you marry all, listen carefully, we all die alone. "

remember the phrase and understand it. Maybe even share the idea. But loneliness is not sought is already in itself a way to start die.

And I do not want. The problem comes immediately after: how can transcend time and distance? If everything is change, how to retain those who meant so much in a specific time?

Are we in the memory, convert them into platonic love, friends, perfect, beautiful stories to tell after a drunken night with friends in turn?

Do we assume that others will come to fill those gaps?

Or will become "a person" even though in many cases almost impossible to do it?

Ah, the whore paradox between lightness and heaviness.

...

What a shame if I could not make a coherent post.

----

I come home and read. Leo what you write. What you say. What you think. What hurts.

And as so often I do not know what to say, what to do.

That is the paradox of the day: I see the memories and I feel I could write an ode to life, but I have no desire, sadness tarnish me.

I think, you always think. And I hear you, and even more so, I'll walk. But you never know what to do when the final definition.

I think what you want, sometimes, is not having to decide on some things and let things run themselves. I know beforehand cowardice, selfishness and immaturity of what I say. But look what it's life.

What Diseases Are Inadmissible To Canada

Thoughts on Mexican politics ends

Turns out I did not die. Last week I had one of the worst strep throat to remember. Several times I thought that since I was 13 and had chickenpox I've never felt so bad, with a general pain scary, intense and did not leave. You know: fever, cough, body aches, vomiting, dizziness, etc. It was ugly, but I'm coming out through the entire course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and do not know what else anti-things that I prescribed. Moral: you go to the doctor the first sign of fever.

Finally, think a moment in politics. Yes, Mexican policy.

turns out that the "oh, yes," president of employment, Don Felipe de Jesús Calderón Hinojosa , whose government is going to stumble on stumble, saw fit to send a political reform proposal last December. Within it are some claims that have been so for politicians, journalists and organizations of civil society for years, such as reducing the number of legislators , the possibility of immediate reelection of these, the candidates and citizen initiative, the runoff, etc..

With festive mood, profound speeches and a look of senior statesmen, legislators of all parties said, words, words less: "Oh, yes, we will review, analyze, and discuss the political reform that has sent the president, Moreover, we held that had them because it opens the parliamentary debate and gives us the chance to think about which way we go and Mexico blah, blah , blah. "

exercise made by the secretary of the Interior to go to "discuss" the proposal in several social and academic areas I found interesting, and the first I could make clear is that nobody agrees with anybody. Then came the forums in the Senate, with important guests, renowned scholars and wise minds, oh, yes. And again the same, there is not even a proposal that makes a clear consensus for or against.

first thought that the "immediate reelection legislators and mayors" would be well received by the comentocracia as political activists that have filled her mouth again and again talking about the need for accountability mechanisms accounts, including the aforementioned re-election. However, it was not. Here and there I heard and read comments of all kinds, "the re-election would strengthen local chiefdoms," "re-election would not help in profecionalización of parliamentary life, the hamper," we can not be re-elected without transparency. " The arguments, all take their point, are fairly reasonable, but leave us more or less the same point of uncertainty .

The applications concerning the independent is another big issue which is that nobody can agree. Some believe that democracy will only become Mexican sense to approve the nominations independent (Read all Citizens National Assembly) and there are those who see them as direct input (and without the filter of the parties) of narco and other powers that the political arena (an example of this approach is the very José Woldenberg ). Ohquéla . What then?

Other points of Calderon's proposal is much more input conflicting and obviously never reach clear consensus. Yes to the second round for the winning candidate has greater legitimacy? Or not, because it promotes bipartisanship ? Yes because it promotes the generation of parliamentary majorities? Or not, because we would have insurmountable technical problems (as we do not have enough time to print ballots with the name of the leading candidates, Lorenzo Cordova dixit)?

How about this proposal that talks about reducing legislators? According to Calderon's initiative, the House of Representatives would then have 400 legislators, and the Senate, 98. Years is common to hear people saying "why do we need 500 members, if only three or four are the decision makers?", "Just go to sleep", "do nothing", "many" . Well, the counter-argument not long in coming, "because in France there are fewer people and more legislators," we need more space parliamentarians "," more interests represented , better democracy, "" inclusion, not exclusion. " 'Ta well, then?

"The citizens' initiative? "Yes, but must be accompanied by the possibility of revocation of mandate, referendum and who knows what else." [Just the issues that the PAN government would never dare to argue, it would be like shooting yourself in the foot].

"Raising the minimum percentage of the vote from 2% to 4% to achieve Registration of political parties? "Oh, no, how such a thing happens, would they disappeared many small parties, especially those who have worked so hard for the good of Mexico."

could go on, but I think the point is visible. There are no clear arrangements. But do not be naive, and is everywhere: the overwhelming consensus is impossible.

What I left thinking and it bothers me are the contradictions : those who yesterday demanded such a thing (from the pulpit of the academic or the political swamp) today demonize. Some will say is that the proposal is flawed. " And I say: "Of course it is, by this is discussed, analyzed, improves. "And indeed the whole debate about political reform made me really enriching. Perhaps, as my estimate Andrés Lajous ," to achieve consensus, you must first generate information, a lot, and from there, join points and making decisions. "

terrible thing is that now it turns out" better then discuss the initiative, or at least so says the PRI . Worse still, if we allow the discussion of the reform (which is a State matter) falls into the inertia election this year (vile politics of the day to day) we will be closing a new opportunity to change our political system. I remember a phrase Diego flight Valadés , "the reformist viable only when appropriate." And I think increasingly stretched over the league, we let time pass and the precarious political will remains stagnant.

In politics, unanimity is not only unthinkable, but it is not desirable. However, sometimes it seems that the Mexican are genetically incapable of achieving minimum consensus, process and make them real. And so, as we administer inertia, opening endless discussion forums and postponing policy decisions the country is going to hell, and we with it. ----
